III. Digestive:
- 1. Compare and contrast the various organs and their order through the body. What role does each of them play (function, physical or chemical action?) For a pig the main organs that we found during dissection is lungs, heart, liver, stomach, and large and small intestine. All of the organs their work the same for a human is they do a baby pig. For a starfish, they have 5 rays that they sense and feel with, and they demonstrate radial symmetry throughout there body no matter how you turn them. For a crayfish, They have antennas in which they use to sense when danger is around and also to hear. They have claws as a way to protect themselves and to attack their pray.
- 2. Which organisms have similar organs in the digestive system? How does that compare to the types of food that they eat? They all have a mouth to intake food and an anus to get rid of food. But that is the only parts that they all have in common. They starfish and the crayfish eat some of the same things because they both live in the water, but the pig shares no common ties with the daily intake of food.
- 3. How is the organ adapted to provide as many reactions as possible in the shortest amount of space? The small amount of space givin in the digestive space cause a problem in the amount of food that should be able to be taken in. But the body has adjusted to the small space and forced the intestine to coil up throughout the space in order to have more intestine fit in the space. If it were to be straight, it might only take up 10 inches, but coiled up, there is a lot more room for food and nutrients to be take in.
- 4. How are the same design features found in the parts of the cell as well as in other organisms and the environment? For parts of a cell would be Golgi bodies, mitochondria, and the Endoplasmic Reticulum. In other for the environment you could use the example of a snake or any animal that needs protection that if they need to get in a small spot, they curl their bodies up into a tight space in a way to get away from danger. In other organisms, they all have the same kind of set up inside. They all have hearts, stomach, intestines Etc. These are all essentials for animals to live.
